The Ethnic Health Institute (EHI), a community service of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, is engaged in coordinating health education, research, health provider training, and community outreach and awareness for the entire community, with a special focus on underserved and minority populations.

EHI Health Initiatives:
Asthma affects 12 million Americans. Every year 5,000 people die from asthma. In this section, read about the symptoms of asthma, find out what you can do to prevent an asthma attack, and where you can find help.
Anyone of any age can get cancer, but some people are more at risk than others. In this section, read about who gets cancer, what you should know, what you can do to stay healthy, and where to find help. You can also read about participating in a research study to find out if there is a connection between prostate cancer and the foods we eat.
Many people who have diabetes do not know it. Finding and treating diabetes early can prevent health problems later. In this section, read about the symptoms of diabetes, and how diabetes can be controlled.
High blood pressure can damage artery walls and increase the chance of a heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, or blindness. In this section, learn more about blood pressure, when blood pressure is too high, who gets high blood pressure, and things you can do to prevent hypertension.
